Biographical Notes in German: American Actress, Born probably around 1890, the dates and places of her birth and death remain unknown for the moment. She graduated from the Notre Dame Academy, Lowell, Massachusetts, "devoting her time to art and music", before joining the Vitagraph Company. Her first screen credit appeared 1912 in A Timely Rescue with Harry T. Morey and Robert Gaillard. While the director of this production is unknown, all her other 19 reported screen appearances were directed by William Humphrey.
The 1918 edition of the Motion Picture Studio Directory has only very little details on the actress: she rides, swims, dances. Her height is 5 foot 5, her weight 125 lbs. She had dark hair and blue eyes. She was apparently "the proud possessor of a beautiful voice ... devotes a great deal of her time to outdoor sports, and is well known among the younger set in Brooklyn." [The Moving Picture World, August 25, 1917, pg 1202] From March to Mai 1917, she appeared in the Irish opera "Eileen" by Henry Blossom at the Shubert Theater in New York, before returning to the motion pictures again.
Carolyn Birch's last known film is Babbling Tongues, screened for the first time in August 1917. After 1917 the actress disappeared into oblivion. [lhg 2013]
