Jack Conway was born under the given name Hugh Ryan Conway on July 17, 1887 in Graceville, Minnesota, USA. He was an American Director, Actor, Producer, known for Too hot to handle (1938), Our modern maidens (1929), The Battle of the Red Men (1912), Jack Conway's first movie on record is from 1908. He was married to Viola Barry (1911-1918) and Virginia Bushman (1926-1952). Jack Conway died on October 11, 1952 in Pacific Palisades, California, USA. His last motion picture on file dates from 1949.
Biographical Notes in German: Regisseur und Schauspieler des amerikanischen Films, debütierte 1909 in einem Film mit Dorothy Davenport und Victoria Forde ("Her Indian Hero") und spielte darauf in circa 100 Filmen mit, kehrte dann aber wieder ans Theater zurück. Es war David Wark Griffith, der schliesslich Conway die Regie in einigen seiner Produktionen anvertraute, und Conway wurde bald zu einem der viel beschäftigten Regisseure Hollywoods. Unter Irving Thalberg kam er zur MGM, bei der er schliesslich bis ans Ende seiner Karriere blieb.

Zeitlebens ein guter Handwerker hat Conway im Rahmen des MGM-Stils respektable Filme mit den Stars seiner Zeit geschaffen, spannende Abenteuerfilme wie "Viva Villa!" mit Wallace Beery, "Too hot to handle" mit Clark Gable oder Komödien wie "Libeled Lady" mit Jean Harlow usf. (lhg 2007)
