Biographical Notes in German: Gladys George wurde als Tochter eines englischen Shakespeare-Schauspielers geboren, als ihre Eltern auf einer Tournee in den USA weilten. Bereits mit drei Jahren auf der Bühne, erhielt sie 1914 ihre erste Rolle am Broadway und 1920 ihr Filmdebüt in RED HOT DOLLAR. Nach wenigen Jahren brach ihre Karriere ab, als sie in einem Unfall schwere Verbrennungen sich zuzog. Erst in den Dreissiger Jahren wieder von Hollywood beschäftigt, folgten einige wichtige Rollen in MADAME X (1938), die Madame DuBarry in MARIE ANTOINETTE und Iva Archer im Klassiker THE MALTESE FALCON (1941).
