Die Tochter eines Kaufmanns und Grundbesitzers, mit 16 Jahren berits am Deutschen Theater in Berlin. Filmdebüt 1915 unter der Regie von Max Mack in der Verfilmung von Sudermanns "Der Katzensteg". Im Laufe ihrer Karriere spielt sie neben zahllosen Theaterrollen auch in rund 200 Filmen und TV-Filmen mit, erst in beliebten Rollen als sorgende Mutter, später dann vor allem in Rollen als ältere, vornehme Dame.

Käte Haack war verheiratet ist sie mit dem 26 Jahre älteren Schauspieler Heinrich Schroth (1871-1945), die gemeinsame Tochter Hannelore Schroth (1922-1987) arbeitet ebenfalls als Schauspielerin. Auch Stiefsohn Carl-Heinz Schroth (1902-1989) macht sich als Schauspieler und Regisseur einen guten Namen.
