Biographical Notes in German: nach anderen Quellen 1907 geboren, Joseph H. Lewis wird als Sohn russisch-jüdischer Einwanderer in New York geboren und kommt 1924 nach Los Angeles, wo sein älterer Bruder Ben ein angesehener Cutter ist. Über ihn kommt Joseph H. Lewis zu seinen ersten Filmjobs als Laufbursche und Kamera-Assistent, später arbeitet er selbst als Cutter. In den 30er Jahren macht er als Regisseur von B-Pictures Karriere. Sein besonderes Gespür für den Erzählrhythmus und sein subtiler Umgang mit den Schauspielern bringen ihm in den 60er Jahren großes Ansehen bei den Filmemachern der "Nouvelle Vague" ein. "Sturm über Texas" stellt Lewis' letzte, in nur zehn Tagen gedrehte Regiearbeit dar. Im Anschluss realisiert Lewis noch bis 1966 einige bemerkenswerte Episoden für TV-Western-Serien wie "Rifleman" (1958), "Bonanza" (1959) und "Big Valley" (1965). (Arte Presse)
