Max Mack was born on October 21, 1884 in Halberstadt. He was a German Director, Actor, known for Arme Maria - Eine Warenhausgeschichte (1915), Robert und Bertram (1915), Ein Tag der Rosen im August, da hat die Garde fortgemusst (1927), Max Mack's first movie on record is from 1910. Max Mack died on February 18, 1973 in London. His last motion picture on file dates from 1935.
Biographical Notes in German: Born in Halberstadt, started 1906 as an actor in provincial theatres, then began to write film scripts for film companies in Berlin. Thanks to Julius Greenbaum he was engaged at the Vitascope. He said "I wrote, arranged and acted the main parts in several short films." At the same time, he was also his own production manager. He claims to have introduced close-ups into German films. In "Wo ist Coletti ?", he is one of the first to use a hidden camera. Founder of the auteur-film in Germany with "Der Andere" by Lindau, for which he engaged Albert Bassermann. Max Mack, one of the forgotten pioneers of the German cinema, had to emigrate to London after the seizure of power by the Nazis. He had to leave among his personal belongings also all his notes and diaries about his early work.
In 1916 he wrote (among others with E.A. Dupont) the film book "Die zappelnde Leinwand"; 1942 he published in London "With a Sight and a Smile - A Showman looks back".
