Ihren Durchbruch erzielte sie, als sie für Helen Hays im Broadway-Stück "Dear Brutus" einsprang. Fox Pictures verpflichtete sie, und Madge trat in einer Reihe von Filmen in den frühen Zwanziger Jahren auf, darunter 'Lorna Doone (1922)' und 'The Iron Horse (1924)'. 1928 spielte sie die Hauptrolle in Fox' erstem Tonfilm 'Mother knows best'.
