Jacques Demy, 1931 in der Bretagne geboren, war Assistent von Georges Rouquier. Nach einigen bemerkenswerten Kurzfilmen drehte er 1960 seinen ersten Spielfilm "Lola", den Jean-Pierre Melville als den originellsten Film der ganzen Nouvelle Vague bezeichnete. Poesie, Romantik, Fantasie und stilistische Raffinesse sind einige bezeichnende Attribute für seine Arbeit.
