Farbiger amerikanischer Schauspieler, der seine ersten kleinen Filmrollen um 1917 (u.a. "Tarzan of the Apes") hatte. Studium an der Northwestern University, zahlreiche Theaterrollen. In Hollywood-Produktionen spielte oft den "typischen Schwarzen", zu seinen bekanntesten Filmen zählt Alexander Kordas "The Thief of Bagdad" oder "Cabin in the Sky", des weiteren in "The Ten Commandments", "King of Kings", "The Sign of the Cross" usf.
