Biographical Notes
Russischer Schauspieler und Regisseur, mongolischer Typus, durch Pudovkins "Sturm über Asien" bekannt geworden. Studium am Polytechnischen Institut in St. Petersburg, dann bei Meyerhold und Kuleshov, Ab 1924 in der Ukraine, sein erster Film "Bazar der Lust" wird nicht fertiggestellt. Von 1925 bis 1930 arbeitete er als Regisseur in den Studios von "Proletkino", "Sovkino" (Moskau), "Vostokkino" (Jalta). 1931 Emigration, im internationalen Film vorwiegend in Frankreich tätig.
