Synopsis in German
James "Brick" Davis (James Cagney) ist als Anwalt nicht sonderlich erfolgreich. Als ein früherer Freund von ihm Opfer von Gangstern wird, mit denen Davis engen Kontakt hat, entschließt sich der junge Mann, als FBI-Agent einen Neuanfang zu wagen. Special-Agent Jeff McCord (Robert Armstrong) hat erhebliche Vorbehalte gegen Davis, dem nicht gerade der beste Ruf vorausgeht. Er amüsiert sich hämisch, wenn der ihm zugeteilte junge Mann in der Ausbildung hart herangenommen wird. Das macht ihn Davis nicht gerade sympathisch, umso mehr gefällt dem McCords hübsche Schwester Kay (Margaret Lindsay). Die große Bewährungsprobe für den neuen FBI-Agenten kommt, als seine Kollegen hinter den Bankräubern Leggett (Edward Pawley) und Collins (Barton MacLane) her sind. Beide stehen ganz oben auf der Fahndungsliste und gehen kaltblütig über Leichen. Davis kennt sie von früher her recht gut und weiß, was er von ihnen zu erwarten hat, als er gegen sie antritt......
