Synopsis in German
Der gutmütige Zeitungsverkäufer Pascal Casdall (Lino Ventura) beweist Zivilcourage, indem er den Selbstmörder Didier Barrachet (Robert Hirsch) aus der Seine zieht. Die Geschichte, die der völlig verängstigt wirkende Mann auftischt, klingt abenteuerlich. Der wie ein Clochard daherkommende Didier beteuert, ein reicher Mann zu sein, der über ausgedehnte Ländereien verfügt. Seit er jedoch die hübsche Catherine (Andrea Parisy) geheiratet habe, lebe er in ständiger Angst. Seine heimtückische Frau versuche nämlich gemeinsam mit seinem Schwager, ihn in den Wahnsinn zu treiben. Man wolle ihn entmündigen, um an seinen Besitz zu kommen. Ein Psychiater sei schon bestellt worden, um Didier in eine Zwangsjacke zu stecken. Also sei er Hals über Kopf davongelaufen. Pascal weiß nicht so recht, ob er dem komischen Kauz glauben soll, hat aber Mitleid mit dem Obdachlosen und nimmt ihn bei sich auf. Als Didier partout nicht zur Vernunft kommen will und steif und fest behauptet, er wohne in einem komfortablen Pariser Haus - in dem er 400.000 Francs vor seiner Frau versteckt habe, aus Angst vor ihr aber die eigenen vier Wände meide -, wird Pascal die Geschichte zu bunt. Halb aus Neugierde, halb aus Gutherzigkeit lässt er sich dazu überreden, in Didiers Villa einzubrechen, wo er das Geld am angegebenen Ort tatsächlich findet. Als Pascal das Haus verlassen will, wird er von der Polizei verhaftet. Der liebenswerte Zeitungsverkäufer, der keiner Fliege etwas zu Leide tun kann, steht plötzlich unter dringendem Tatverdacht, Didier Barrachet erschlagen zu haben. Aber wie kann das sein? Der Tote in der Villa ist gar nicht Didier. Allerdings ist Pascal der Einzige, der dies behauptet... (ARD Presse)
