Synopsis in German
Der junge Gewerkschaftssekretär Jacques Gaillac wird zum Minister ernannt. Die neugewonnene Macht verändert ihn zusehends; irgendwann sieht er sich als ein von der Vorsehung bestimmter Staatsmann. Beruflich droht er alles zu verlieren, und auch seine Geliebte, die hübsche und kluge Tänzerin Susanne.
Jacques Gaillac ist einfacher Elektriker an der Pariser Oper und himmelt die hübsche und strebsame Tänzerin Susanne Verrier an. Diese unterhält jedoch engen Kontakt zum politisch einflussreichen Grafen de Montoire-Grandpré. Paris befindet sich zu der Zeit in politisch unruhigen Zeiten. Gerade beherrscht ein ausgedehnter Streik bei den Verkehrsbetrieben das Leben auf den Straßen. Gaillac besitzt als Streikführer die nötige Aura, um die Forderungen der Gewerkschaft bei den Stadtoberen durchzusetzten. Susanne ist tief beeindruckt.
Gaillac, durch den Sieg politisch gestärkt, lässt sich als Abgeordneter ins Palais Bourlon wählen und wird Minister. Doch die schlagartig erlangte Macht steigt ihm zu Kopf und er droht alles zu verlieren, allen voran die Liebe Susannes. (arte Presse)
