Synopsis in German
Die Schriftstellerin Kit Marlowe hat mit ihrem ersten Buch einen groĂen Kritikererfolg erzielt. Ihre verheiratete Jugendfreundin Millie Drake findet Kits Buch jedoch dĂŒster und kompliziert. Sie will Liebesromane schreiben. Als sie mit ihren kitschigen Werken tatsĂ€chlich Erfolg hat, bricht zwischen den Freundinnen eine unterschwellige Konkurrenz aus, die dank Kits Umsicht nicht eskaliert. Selbst als Millies Mann Preston nach neun Jahren Ehe genug von seiner oberflĂ€chlich, eitel und egoistisch gewordenen Frau hat und sich Kit zuwendet, verzichtet diese, um die Freundschaft zu Millie nicht zu gefĂ€hrden.
Als der inzwischen mit einer anderen Frau verheiratete Preston aus dem Krieg heimkehrt und seiner Exfrau bei einem Höflichkeitsbesuch erzĂ€hlt, dass er einst in ihre Freundin Kit verliebt war, gerĂ€t Millie auĂer sich vor Wut.
