Synopsis in German
Norditalien, 24. bis zum 28. April 1945. Der Abschied Benito Mussolinis von der Weltgeschichte vollzieht sich zwischen Mailand und dem Comer See. Der gestürzte Diktator ist mit seiner Geliebten Clara Petacci auf der Flucht: vor den Deutschen, die den geschlagenen Verbündeten nicht den Siegern überlassen möchten, vor den Amerikanern, die ihn als Kriegsverbrecher anklagen wollen, vor der italienischen Provinzregierung und vor den antifaschistischen Widerstandskämpfern des Nationalen Befreiungskomitees, das ihn in Abwesenheit bereits zum Tode verurteilt hat und ohne Prozess hinrichten will, bevor er den Amerikanern in die Hände fällt. Längst ist Mussolini ein Diktator ohne Basis. Seine "Schwarzhemden" fallen massenhaft von ihm ab. Sein Fluchtweg in den Norden hat das Ziel, sich auf neutralen Schweizer Boden zu retten, wo er hofft, Winston Churchill für seine Pläne zu gewinnen, die Europa vor der kommunistischen Bedrohung retten sollen. Doch am Ende ist der Diktator bar aller Freunde und Truppen. Nur unzulänglich als deutscher Soldat verkleidet, wird Mussolini am Comer See von Mitgliedern der Partisanenbrigade "Garibaldi" gefangen genommen und am 28. April 1945 mit seiner Geliebten im Auftrag des Generalkommandos der antifaschistischen Freiheitskämpfer erschossen.... (3Sat Presse)
