Synopsis in German
Captain Jarvis (Raymond Massey) und sein Erster Offizier Rossi (Humphrey Bogart) wissen nur zu gut, wie gefährlich die deutschen U-Boote sind, die im Nordatlantik operieren. Nachdem ihr Tanker dort versenkt worden war, mussten sie elf schwere Tage auf einem Rettungsfloß überstehen, bis sie mit ihren Männern geborgen werden konnten. Dennoch ist es für sie Ehrensache, bald darauf mit einem der neuen Liberty-Schiffe wieder in See zu stechen. Die "Sea Witch" ist ein bewaffneter Frachter, der Nachschub für die verbündeten Sowjets nach Murmansk bringen soll, und fährt in einem großen Geleitzug. Als der Konvoi von mehreren deutschen U-Booten angegriffen wird, verliert die "Sea Witch" den Kontakt zu den anderen Schiffen und setzt ihre Fahrt allein fort. Eines der U-Boote verfolgt sie. Bei einem Angriff deutscher Flugzeuge wird Captain Jarvis verletzt, Rossi muss das Kommando übernehmen. Obwohl das Schiff auch noch von einem Torpedo getroffen wird, gelingt es ihm, den deutschen U-Boot-Kommandanten zu täuschen und diesmal Sieger zu bleiben... (ARD Presse)
