Synopsis in German
Für Prinz Prospero ist das Zeichen des Kreuzes das lächerliche Symbol einer nicht mehr existierenden Gottheit. Sein Gott der Wahrheit ist Satanas, der Herr der Fliegen, der Teufel. So tyrannisiert und quält er seine Untertanen, die es wie die Bauern Ludovico, der Vater der jungen Francesca, und Gino nur selten wagen, sich gegen den blutrünstigen Herrscher aufzulehnen. Jener hat sich aus Angst vor der gerade herrschenden Seuche des "Roten Todes" in seiner Burg eingeschlossen, um dort ein wildes Maskenfest zu feiern, bei dem die rote Farbe verboten ist. An seiner Seite ist auch Francesca, an der der Prinz besonderes Interesse hat, eifersüchtig beobachtet von Juliana, Prosperos Gattin. Ludovico und Francescas Verlobter Gino sind inzwischen gefangen genommen worden. Prospero will einen der beiden schonen, darüber entscheiden soll Francesca. Juliana sieht eine Gelegenheit, sich der Rivalin zu entledigen, und bereitet die Flucht vor. Doch der Prinz kommt hinter das Komplott. (3Sat Presse)
