Meisterköchin Kate Armstrong (Catherine Zeta-Jones) glänzt als Maître de Cuisine im Manhattaner Nobelrestaurant 22 Bleecker. Die gleichermaßen bewunderte wie gefürchtete Perfektionistin soll sich nach dem Tod ihrer Schwester um ihre 9-jährige Nichte Zoe (Abigail Breslin) kümmern - und ist völlig überfordert, denn außerhalb der Küche hat sie nichts im Griff.
