Ein Mädchen verschwindet spurlos aus einem Internat in der Nähe von Kiel. Die Leiche wird bald im Moor entdeckt. Borowski beginnt mit seinen Ermittlungen im Umfeld des Internats und der reichen Familie des Mädchens. Eine etwas seltsame Bekanntschaft zu einem Kaufhausdetektiv, dessen Tochter auch auf das Internat geht, bringt ihn über Umwege zu des Rätsels Lösung. Dieser spannende Fall erzählt die Geschichte eines verzweifelten Mannes, der fast seine ganze Familie zerstört.
Hat sich das Mädchen abgesetzt oder handelt es sich um ein Verbrechen? Borowskis Recherchen führen ihn in das Mädcheninternat Hainfeld, auf das Belinda ging. Zusammen mit Frieda Jung, muss er feststellen, wie einsam und wenig gemocht Belinda war. Also doch Mord? Noch ahnt Borowski nicht, wie nah er dem Mörder kommt, der seine Freundschaft sucht.
