Als Elfjährige erlebt Reena Hale mit, wie das Restaurant ihrer Eltern vollkommen ausbrennt. Die Faszination für die zerstörerische Macht des Feuers hat Reena nie wieder losgelassen.
Sie wird Brandermittlerin bei der Polizei in Baltimore.
Schon bald zählt sie zu den Besten ihres Jobs. Unterdessen lernt sie ihre erste große Liebe kennen, den jungen Schriftsteller Josh. Reenas Glück scheint perfekt - bis Josh ausgerechnet bei einem Brand ums Leben kommt. Geschockt vergräbt Reena sich nun vollkommen in ihrer Arbeit. Lange dauert es, bis sie sich wieder auf einen Mann einlässt. Reena will ihren Kollegen Hugh heiraten, der sich scherzhaft als "feuerfest" bezeichnet - doch er stirbt bei einer Explosion. Reena findet heraus, dass Hugh und Josh Opfer von perfide ausgeführten Brandanschlägen wurden. Am Tatort entdeckt sie jeweils Spuren, die der Brandstifter nur für sie legte. Einige Zeit später lernt Reena den attraktiven Schreiner Bo Goodnight kennen. Vor Jahren hat er Reena kurz auf einer Party gesehen, sich spontan verliebt und darauf gehofft, sie wiederzusehen. Als Reena einen anonymen Anruf erhält, weiß sie, dass Bo in großer Gefahr schwebt. Doch für Bo wird Reena durchs Feuer gehen.... (ARD Presse)
