Kurz bevor Musikprofessor Assing sein Lebenswerk, die Oper "Die Sieger", aufführen kann, erleidet er einen Schlaganfall. Auf dem Sterbebett nimmt er seinem Lieblingsschüler Camille das Versprechen ab, die Oper aufzuführen. Camille liebt Assings Tochter Konstanze, eine junge begabte Sängerin, die ihn aber erst heiraten will, wenn er selbst durch eine überragende musikalische Leistung ihrem Vater ebenbürtig ist. Da schreckt Camille nicht davor zurück, Assings Oper unter anderem Titel als seine eigene herauszubringen. Der große Erfolg überzeugt Konstanze, die jetzt glaubt, dass sie ihn liebt. Da deckt ihr Jugendfreund, ein Musikkritiker, den ganzen Schwindel auf, und Konstanze weiß nun, wen sie tatsächlich liebt. (www.filmportal.de)
