Propagandafilm aus dem Jahr 1918: Der Deutsche Burgsdorf arbeitet als Pflanzer in Afrika, als er nach Kriegsausbruch von einem ebenso brutalen wie sadistischen französischen Hauptmann gefangen genommen wird. Im Lager wird er gefoltert, weil er passiven Widerstand geleistet haben soll, kann jedoch mit Hilfe eines Einheimischen fliehen. Als Burgsdorf heimlich mit der Frau des Hauptmanns spricht, entdeckt der Franzose ihn - auf der Verfolgungsjagd stirbt der französische Hauptmann, und Burgsdorf reist gemeinsam mit der Witwe in die Schweiz.
