Reviews in German: «Als Mabel Normand "The Extra Girl" drehte, war ihre Filmkarriere eigentlich schon zu Ende: sie war am Tage des rätselhaften Todes des Regisseurs William Desmond Taylor am 1. Februar 1922 in seinem Hause und hatte ihn als eine der letzten noch lebend gesehen. Der Verdacht, in den rätselhaften Mordfall verwickelt zu sein, war Mabel ebenso wie ihrer Kollegin Mary Miles Minter zum Verhängnis geworden.
Trotz dem bot Produzent Mack Sennett seinem früheren Star der Keystone Filme die Chance einer Hauptrolle in einem ganz auf Mabel abgestimmten abendfüllenden Film, der übrigens als einer der wenigen Langspielfilme Sennetts erhalten geblieben ist. Es ist eine relativ verhaltene Komödie geworden mit manch schönen Szenen und ein paar Slapstick-Einlagen, die an Mack Sennetts Filme der Zehner Jahre erinnern. Einen legendären Höhepunkt hat "The Extra Girl", wenn Mabel mit dem Löwen an der Leine durch das Studio spaziert, und alle ausser ihr sehen, dass es ein wirklicher Löwe ist und nicht - wie Mabel denkt - der Hund Teddy verkleidet im Löwenfell...
Ein melancholischer Abschied von der Filmkarriere für Mabel Normand, an deren Seite Charlie Chaplin seine ersten Filmerfolge feierte. Sieben Jahre später starb Mabel an Turberkulose im Alter von nur sechsunddreissig Jahren.» (lhg 2008)
